Subsidence – what to look out for

Insurers are reporting that due to the hot Summer of 2022, we could be looking at a subsidence spike year. A lack of moisture in the ground can lead to clay soils drying out, particularly if there are mature trees nearby drawing water from the ground.

If you see signs of cracking, firstly, don’t panic. Some settlement of buildings is usual, and our claims team can provide some technical advice and guidance to reassure. If however the cracks are getting wider, please report them to your broker/insurer so that an investigation can be undertaken, and remedial works planned accordingly.

We have over forty years of experience in dealing with property claims and will work with insurers and loss adjusters to ensure that your property is put back into the same condition as before the subsidence started.

Please contact our claims manager, Caroline Bullard or Claims Handler, Oscar Camilleri, if you have any concerns about movement at your property.
